What is a Mark of Excellence?

It is a quality stamp which aims to distinguish ordinary from extra-ordinary learning activities.

What is the criteria to obtain Mark of Excellence?

-        Needs assessment Provider is required to perform a robust needs assessment to clearly identify learning gap(s) which will be covered by proposed learning activity.

-        Learning approach - use of multi-learning approaches is considered as important criteria in obtaining the Mark of Excellence.

-        Outcome measurement - providers should focus on determining improvement of learners performance and stimulate further interest in personal development.

What are the benefits for providers and participants?

From the perspective of providers, they should benefit from the following aspects:

Benefits of accreditation

More and more European countries are running CME (Continuing Medical Education) systems for physicians, some of which are mandatory. Therefore, doctors prefer to attend accredited meetings and earn CME credits that will be recognised by their National Accreditation Authorities. 

The accredited CME activity distinguishes itself from other potential educational activities by the fact that its quality has been confirmed by an impartial board of specialists widely recognised in the field of pneumology.

EBAP-accredited events and activities are promoted through EBAP's website, as well as through advertisements in the European Respiratory Journal and Breathe.

Accreditation process and guidelines


We strongly suggest that you plan for the accreditation process of your CME programmes very early on, so that you may start gathering the required documents for the accreditation process.

The recommended deadline for submitting an application is 18 weeks prior to the LEE start date. Requests received after 14 weeks prior to the live event date will no longer be accepted.

You can expect a response to your request within the following timeframe:

 Live Educational Events: 18 weeks. Please note that LEEs will be accredited only if they follow both UEMS and EBAP accreditation criteria.

 Printed material, e-learning, assessments: 8-10 weeks

 Training Centre Accreditation: The whole accreditation process can take up to 12 months.


The following fees will be charged for processing activities. 



Register as a CME Provider

It is first necessary to register as a CME provider to be able to apply for event or educational product's accreditation. This only needs to be done once.

To register as a new provider, please complete the following online form. Once you have registered as a CME Provider, you will still need to apply for each event or educational products you wish to have accredited. Each application will be assessed separately.


Accreditation request

EBAP only accredits activities pertinent to respiratory medicine, including paediatric respiratory medicine (PRM). EBAP does not accredit event organisers or publishers. Each CME activity must be assessed and accredited individually.

  • Live Educational Events (LEE)

    A cooperation agreement has been signed with the UEMS/EACCME. Under the terms of this agreement, all Live Educational Events (LEE) applications in the field of Respiratory Medicine are evaluated by EBAP.

  • E-learning

    By e-learning, we mean activities that can be accessed online, such as web-based courses, webcasts, video presentations, online simulations and live online conferences destined to an international audience.

  • Printed Material (articles, books)

    Printed material such as articles and books related to respiratory medicine can be accredited by EBAP.

  • Training Centres

    This voluntary accreditation process is open to all Adult European Training Centres composed of either a single participating training centre or alternatively of a number of training sites.

  • Other CME Activities

    EBAP also recognises apps, assessments, MCQ writing and workshops as well as reviewing duties as potential CME activities, provided they are found to be of clear educational value.
