The interaction between airways disease and bronchiectasis - An initiative of the EMBARC and SHARP CRCs

The interaction between airways disease and bronchiectasis - An initiative of the EMBARC and SHARP CRCs

  • Date of activity: 07 February, 2019 - 08 February, 2019
  • Provider: European Respiratory Society
  • Venue: Barcelona, Spain
  • The aim of this research seminar is to breakdown some of the barriers between different specialities to discuss and debate the role of overlap syndromes in respiratory medicine. This project is an initiative of the EMBARC and SHARP CRC’s who see bronchiectasis and asthma as clear examples of where different "disease specific" research groups need to work together, since 50% of bronchiectasis patients have self-reported or physician reported asthma, while a high proporition of patients with severe asthma (up to 30%) are found to have bronchiectasis. Close collaboration between different clinical research collaborations, consortia and task forces is essential to achieve better clinical care for patients. The start of this process is to achieve dialogue between groups with diverse clinical and research interests. This research seminar will bring together key groups in asthma, bronchiectasis, and additional respiratory conditions to examine the knowledge and gaps regarding disease "overlap syndromes" with the goal of generating new collaborations and shared learning.
