Thoroscopy and Pleural Techniques

This course is aimed at pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons who want to train in diagnostic and therapeutic interventional pulmonology. As a rule, two-thirds of the course are devoted to “hands-on” workshops and one-third to the theoretical aspects of bronchoscopy or thoracoscopy. The participants will have the opportunity to practice live bronchoscopy or thoracoscopy (using pigs and sheep). The operating rooms are equipped with full video equipment.

This course provides an overview of the field of Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs). Participants will learn which diagnostic procedures should be applied based on given clinical circumstances, and what difficulties can arise in ILD diagnosis. Special emphasis will be given to HRCT courses, as these typically guide the diagnosis of many ILDs; this will be accompanied by sessions on ILD-pathology. Therapy remains a challenging aspect of treating many ILDs, so this course will provide participants with insight into the pros and cons of specific ILD treatments. Interdisciplinary ILD board discussions will be held between specialists and course participants, and course attendees will have the opportunity to bring their own challenging cases and discuss them with leading experts. Further, there will be a dedicated discussion session on the impact of comorbidities on the clinical course of ILD treatment.

The ERS Lung Science Conference (LSC) is a showcase for cutting-edge research and its translation into clinical solutions. Its originality and success are based on facilitating dialogue between young scientists and established investigators. The 7th International Workskhop on Lung Health is an international meeting devoted to the last updated in Respiratory Medicine. The “theme” of the seventh edition is  “Rethinking Lung Diseases: towards tailored management” so to embrace a whole series of pathologies, even some minor ones, of interest for the audience as emerged from the post congress web-survey submitted to the participants to the last editions.  Asthma and COPD will remain central within the programme with incursions in minor pathologies like Pulmonary Hypertension, Cystic Fibrosis and Bronchiectasis and a session dedicated to Respiratory Infections. The congress programme is completed with debates and cases discussion, in order to involve the 400 – 500 expected participants in an interactive meeting.
