This collaborative course unites thoracic oncology experts to share comprehensive insights across the lung cancer spectrum, covering everything from screening and rapid diagnosis to palliative care and complex resuscitation ethics. Organised by ERS, with expert contributions from the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) and European Society of Radiology (ESR), the course aims to:
– present the latest evidence and best practices in lung cancer screening, staging, diagnosis and treatment
– explore recent advances in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
– review standards for palliative care and decision-making around resuscitation
– examine approaches to biopsy, biomarker integration and outcome prediction

The Pulmonary Hypertension Masterclass will be focused on the early detection, diagnostic strategy (including ECHO and right heart catheterization practical demonstration, and right heart catheterization simulation) and therapy in patients with pulmonary hypertension. During Case Forum participants are invited to present case reports.

This course aims to improve the early and accurate diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary nodules by training pulmonologists in advanced image-guided navigation and biopsy techniques. Traditional biopsy methods can be less effective and carry higher risks. Using advanced imaging-based technologies, clinicians can enhance navigation, perform safer biopsies, and potentially enable future local treatments, ultimately improving diagnostic accuracy, patient safety, and comfort. The course is specifically tailored for pulmonologists with advanced endoscopic expertise, who are proficient in basic bronchoscopy and have experience with cancer diagnostic procedures and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).

The WASOG 2026 will centre on this critical and evolving area of research Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Disease. Each theme will have several sessions, and will include a mixture of basic/translational and clinical science as well as best practice advice. Sessions will include a mixture of didactic lectures, debates and case presentations with lots of time for lively discussion.
